Observability 360 Editor

Observability Cosmos 1.0

When we released the observability cosmos earlier this year we introduced it as a beta as we felt that we may need to do some redefining of categories or replotting of products. In the end it was more a matter of minor adjustments than major shifts.

This iteration is therefore Version 1.0 of the map and represents a consolidation of the overall categories as well as the introduction of 6 new products - bringing up the total number of products listed to 134 across 16 categories. We are happy to say that no products have been removed. In the intervening period we have seen a number of acquisitions - such as Embrace being snapped up by Palo Alto and Deductive being acquired by Elastic. As of now these products have retained their identity and are therefore still listed in their own right.

The AI Contenders

AI intersects with observability across two different axes - AI-driven SRE and then observability of LLMs and agents themselves. Sherlocks AI and Steadwing both fall into the former category. Both of them promise high-speed root cause analysis of incidents as well as intelligent remediation. Sherlocks positions itself as a lightweight AI SRE with fast setup time and greater affordbility than big-hitters such as Resolve.ai. Steadwing seems to be aiming at a similar market - claiming five minute setup time and offering paid plans starting at £99 per month.

NoFire is a product that takes a slightly different approach to other tools in the AI SRE sector. Rather than being driven by the classic telemetry signals, they monitor your system by tracking changes in source code. This means they can evaluate the impact of changes in real time and can pinpoint the particular commit or PR that may have caused a regression.

Reiver represents the second AI/Observability axis and comprises a number of separate components, including an LLM gateway and observability for AI agents.

Application Observability

We have also added two further vendors to the application observability category. The first is Bronto - a new entrant to the market with a pitch that centres around scale and affordability. We have also added CheckMk. They may not be one of the best known names and they seem to keep a low profile. Despite that, their nybrid observability solution is used by some of the biggest names in the world - Fujitsu, Siemens, Adobe,HP,VW and more.

Meet Imply - database as a service

We first came across Imply at SREDay London earlier this year and were intrigued by their proposition. They describe their product as a telemetry warehouse. What does that mean - well, it's your goto place if you need to run Splunk-type queries without Splunk-type costs.

The next installment

The next version of the Cosmos is due to be published in December - although there may be minor updates in the meantime. If you are a product owner or you know of a product that should be listed, then please let us know.
