Kerno - A Business Reliability Platform

As we have often noted, there can often be a disconnect between observability platforms and the developer experience. Kerno positions itself as a developer business reliability tool which brings the power of observability technologies into a unified feedback and debugging environment.

One of the primary constituents of full-fat observability is context, and this is something that Kerno has in abundance. As well as collecting telemetry, it also builds up a picture of your team structure as well as integrating with CI and source control systems. This means that not only can it pinpoint issues quickly, it can also intelligently alert only the relevant developers and stakeholders.

The system is eBPF-based and runs on a node on your Kubernetes cluster. The system is designed to have a low resource footprint (less than 2%), whilst its event-based data collection model means that it can save on storage and egress costs by up to 90%.

The company recently held a very well-received launch week and the product is currently in public beta. There has been a certain amount of talk about observability shifting left (and right). In our view, what Kerno and similar tools signify is a shift to an era of pervasive observability.
