Overview

SigNoz are an observability provider who compete very strongly on price and their costs are amongst the lowest in the market. Luckily, their pricing model is very straightforward, being based on ingestion of the the three principal telemetry signals:

  • Logs
  • Metrics
  • Traces

Logs and traces are measured in GB, which is obviously self-explanatory. Metrics are measured in samples and the cost is based on a mixture of the total number of samples per month and the desired retention period. Metrics are charged per million samples as follows:

Retention Period Price Per Million Samples ($)
1 Month 0.1
3 Months 0.12
6 Months 0.15
13 Months 0.18
Clearly, it pays to have a short retention period.

Working out the total number of samples that you will be sending should be quite straightforward. The formula will be:
(Number of time series) * (Samples per minute) * 60 * 24 * 30.
So, if you have 1,000 time series and you are sending data every fifteen seconds the calculation would be:
1,000 * 4 * 60 * 24 * 30
This comes to 172.8 million. So, if you chose a 1 month retention period, your metrics cost would be 172.8 * .1, giving a total cost of $17.28 for the month.

SigNoz have also created this useful video to explain their metrics pricing model.
